2,000 kg solid waste collected from Mt Everest region Two-thousand kilograms of solid waste has been collected from Mt Everest region under the Sagarmatha Cleaning Campaign. Of the total amount of garbage collected, 1,000 kg was taken to Kathmandu and another 1,000 kg to Okhaldhunga in a Nepali Army helicopter for disposal, according to Sagarmatha National Park. Locally manageable waste was taken care of at the Namche region itself. Bio-degradable waste was taken to Okhaldhunga while non-degradables like plastic and bottles were taken to Kathmandu, according to Chief of the Park Pramod Bhattarai. The cleanliness campaign was carried out from Lukla to Syangboche of the Khumbu region to mark the 12th International Sagarmatha Day. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Nepali Army, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Department of Forest and Environment, the Park buffer zone and Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee took part in the campaign that began from the first day of the Nepali New Year 2076, added Bhattarai.
