In an extraordinary display of determination and physical endurance, 80-year-old VV Sundaram, a US national based in Chennai, has successfully trekked to Everest Base Camp, defying age and inspiring adventurers worldwide. Accompanied by family and friends, including his 15-year-old granddaughter and friends, Sundaram celebrated his milestone birthday at the iconic Himalayan site. "It was a dream, a challenge, and a celebration of life," said Sundaram, who credited the expedition's success to meticulous planning and teamwork. "The mountains are majestic, but the human spirit is stronger!" A lifelong fitness enthusiast, Sundaram is no stranger to endurance feats. He regularly embarks on 800+ kilometer bike rides across Colorado and Iowa, maintaining a rigorous daily workout routine. His professional accolades are equally impressive-he formerly served as President and CEO of IT giant Covansys and co-founded the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival, the world's largest Indian classical music event. Sundaram's trek was a family affair, with his son Mony Iyer, granddaughter Gitu Iyer, brother VV Ramesh, and close friends joining him for parts of the journey. "He proves that age is just a number," said Mony, while 76-year-old trek companion Ganesh Kumar praised Sundaram's "drive and determination."
