Legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa today left for the Everest region to attempt climb the world's highest peak for the 29th time. "I will be guiding a team of climbers from the 14 Peaks Expedition and Seven Summit Treks to the Everest summit," the 54-year-old climber said, adding that he would also take a banner of The Himalayan Times to the top of Everest this season. Kami Rita, who has already set a world record for the most successful ascents on Mt Everest, will attempt to stand atop the roof of the world for the 29th time, said Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Chief Executive Officer at 14 Peaks Expedition said. The legendary climber from Thame, Solukhumbu, will be the lead guide of the VVIP team of 14 Peaks Expeditions on Mt Everest, he said. As in the past, Kami Rita has a plan to make a double ascent of the mountain this spring. "I will try to scale the mountain with the rope fixing team and then with my clients," he said. Between 1994 to 2023, he scaled Mt Everest 28 times, K2 and Lhotse one time, Manaslu thrice, and Cho Oyu eight times.
