Days 24-28/April 14-18, 2009 (Tuesday-Saturday) Climbing has truly begun on Everest, with our first full rotation up to Camp II now complete. Laundry is done, stubble shaved clean and days of grime showered off... The luxury of EBC was missed, but I can't wait to get back in a few days time, this time to tag Camp III and ready myself for the actual summit push. In the meantime, here are some of the "high points" of the past few days, one of which actually touched Earth orbit!
April 14: Ascent to Camp I I tossed and turned with nervous energy most of the night. My alarm, set for 03:40, never went off: I toggled it off about 03:20 and commenced my preparations for Camp I ascent: although my backpack was mostly locked and loaded for the trip, a few last minute items needed stowage, including an empty pee bottle. Breakfast was light; we were on our way Crampon Point via the puja altar by 04:30; underway at 04:57, full of energy. —onorbit.com
