Kathmandu, February 22:
A Chinese delegation is busy wooing Nepali authorities for the latter’s support to the Chinese plan to take the Olympics torch to the Mt Everest summit from the northern slope as a part of the Olympics-2008 torch run.
The team consisting Chinese officials from different ministries today met Prithvi Subba Gurung, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and sought support from Nepali government for their mission to take the Olympics torch atop the Mt Everest.
The officials sought special arrangements from the Nepali side to clear way for a large number of Chinese climbers who would take the torch to the summit on the first week of May, a peak season for mountaineering in Nepal when lot of tourists begin their expetition to the summit.
“Minister Gurung has agreed to provide necessary support to realise the Chinese plan,” said joint-secretary at the ministry Jala Krishna Shrestha.
