Delhi to host S Asian film fest Seven Nepali films to be screened The first South Asian Film Festival is to be held in the Indian capital from October 24-30. Seventy films from countries like Nepal, India, Afghanistan, Bhutan, the Maldives, Bangladesh and Pakistan will be screened during the festival that is being organised by South Asia Foundation in cooperation with the India Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR). The films from Nepal that will be screened at the festival are Girish Giri’s Team Nepal, Kiran Shrestha’s Bheda ko oon jasto, Dhruv Basnet’s Schools in crossfire, Ramyata Limbu’s Everest ka chhoriharu (Daughters of Everest), and Pranay Limbu’s Itihaas jitneharu. Besides these, two Nepali feature films will also be screened at the festival, according to the organisers. “The aim of the festival is to bring the best of South Asian films on one plate and then give the viewers the different tastes of the region,” said organiser Rahul Barua. It also aims to spread the message of peace and harmony in the region by using the medium of films to interact and talk with each other. Gautam Ghosh’s The Treasurer of Snow, which won India’s National Award in 2002, will be screened then, while the primere of a Sri Lankan film will be held at the festival. The festival’s selection committee and jury have renowned personalities like India’s minister for Science and technology Kapil Sibal, Gautam Ghosh, Shyam Benegal, Tariq Anwar, Sudhir Mishra and Vinod Khanna.
