KATHMANDU:Former Sri Lankan test player and skipper of the Kathmandu Kings XI finally broke the shackles and inspired his team to victory with his all round performance with the bat and ball against the Chitwan Tigers during the TVS Everest Premier League played at the TU Cricket Stadium, on Thursday.
After winning the toss, Kathmandu Kings XI skipper Maharoof opted to field first in their third game of the tournament.
Chitwan Tigers managed to post a decent total of 142/7 in their allotted 20 overs which Kathmandu Kings XI won by 3 wickets and 4 balls to spare.
With today's victory, Kathmandu Kings XI manage to accumulate points after loosing two games in the trot.
Dilip Nath top scored for the side with 46 runs off just 40 balls with five fours and a maximum. Chitwan Tigers lost their first wicket in the 4.2 overs after Maharoof found the edge of the Anil Mandal caught by Sagar PUn for just 2 runs off 10 balls.
Sagar Pun who himself is having a poor campaign took a return catch to dismiss Sandeep Sunar for 5 runs. At one stage Chitwan Tigers were reeling at 72/3 in the 12th over.
Maharoof added more misery to the opposition by dismissing their captain Dipendra Singh Airee for mere 9 runs.
Yogendra Karki and Sabez Khan scored 17 and 27 runs respectively to restore parity and put on decent total on the board.
Ferveez Maharoof was pick of the bowler with 4-0-21-3. Sagar Pun, Amar Routela and Bikram Bhushal bagged a wicket each.
In reply, Sagar Pun's poor run with the bat continued as he perishes for just 5 runs with 12 runs scored on the board. Opener Amit Shrestha and skipper Fervez Maharoof combined for 65 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket to lay the foundation for the chase.
Amit continued his good form with the bat as he smashed 38 runs off just 24 deliveries that included 7 hits to the fence.
Maharoof capped the day with a good performance with the bat as he accumulated 39 runs off 33 ball that included three fours and two maximums.
Chitwan Tigers managed to pick up three wickets for nine runs but it was a task too heavy for them to stop the Kathmandu from winning their first game of the campaign.
Indian recruit Praveen Gupta took two wickets where as Shahab Alam, Dipendra Singh Airee and Pramesh Kumar chipped in with a wicket each.
Skipper Ferveez Maharoof was adjudged as man of the match and received Rs 10,000.
