Rajendra Mukhia Sunuwar, a courageous youth from Sandakpur–1, Ilam, who successfully summited Mt. Everest, was honored on Sunday by Jubilant Elite Academy, located in the Ilam district headquarters.

The event was attended by nearly 900 students, with the school's Principal Bhushant Subba, Founder Smriti Angdembe , and other teachers presenting tokens of love and traditional khadas to express their respect and appreciation for Rajendra's remarkable achievement.
Earlier, on Friday, July 25 (Shrawan 9), Rajendra was also felicitated in a grand ceremony hosted at Hotel Ilam Height by the Sunuwar Welfare Society (District Committee, Ilam).
The program organized by Siraat Sunuwar welfare Society (SWS) Ilam witnessed enthusiastic participation. The event commenced with a traditional Kirati blessing ritual known as "Sheer Gen, Khimti Gen, Yayu Gen, Kshama Gen", accompanied by good wishes. Senior community elder Na:so Prithasingh Sunuwar and representatives from various clans offered Syambu and Sersyo as part of the ritual inauguration.
On May 23, 2025 (Jestha 9, 2082 B.S.) at 4:40 a.m., Rajendra Mukhia Sunuwar successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.
To honor this extraordinary accomplishment, SWS Ilam President Leela Sunuwar and distinguished guests presented him with a traditional turban (pagari), khada, garlands, and a certificate of honor.
Notable attendees included Kiran Mukhia, former Vice President of SU.W.S Central Committee; Naresh Shrestha, Ward Chair of Ilam–7; Bhim Chapagain, President of the Nepal Journalists Association Ilam; Torankumar Mukhia, Ward Member of Sandakpur–1; Pushpa Rai, Chairperson of Kiraya–Ilam; Chekin Tamang, representative of Tamang Ghedung Ilam; Chakradeep Sunuwar, Provincial Secretary of SWS; and Chyang Mukhia, Municipal Chairperson, among others.
All speakers lauded Rajendra's brave and inspiring feat, emphasizing how his Everest ascent has uplifted the pride of the marginalized Sunuwar community. They offered congratulations and extended their best wishes for even greater achievements in the future.
The program was conducted by Anil Sunuwar, Vice President of SWS Ilam, and the welcome speech was delivered by Ganga Mukhia, District Secretary.
