Everest Marathon: Nepal Army runners win Full Open and Extreme Ultra categories KATHMANDU: With Nepali runners dominating the open categories of full and ultra marathons, the 14th edition of Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon concluded on the lap of Mt Everest in Solukhumbu district on Sunday. Nepal  Army's Bed Bahadur Sunuwar won the Full Marathon Open and the same team's Tirtha Bahadur Tamang notched first place in the Ultra Marathon Open category. The race started from the Everest Base Camp near the Khumbu Glacier at an altitude of 5,364 metres this morning, and concluded at Namche Bazaar (3,446 metres). Sunuwar completed the distance of 42.195 km in four hours and 10 second to be victorious in the full marathon open category. He was followed by Bhim Bahadur Gurung (four hours, three minutes and 14 seconds) of Nepal Army, and Suman Kulung  (four hours, 11 minutes and 52 seconds) finishing second and third respectively. "Coming from Terai, running in the world’s Highest Marathon for the first time and wining it is a great experience," Sunuwar said, "I was happy with just participating with so many nationals and international runners but after winning I am very grateful." Tirtha Bahadur Tamang took six hours, 36 minutes and 13 seconds to complete the 60 km distance of the extreme ultra marathon. Purna Tamang of the Nepal Army (six hours, 45 mins and five seconds) finished second, and DB Kulung third with the timing of six hours, 55 mins and 28 seconds.
