Farmers stage sit-in at Mahottari sugar mill's main gate GAUSHALA: The Sugarcane Production Association, Mahottari has launched a strike at the Everest Sugar Mill, Ramnagar since Saturday putting forth six demands. Around 100 farmers have been staging a sit-in at the main entrance of the sugar mill demanding a proper price for their sugarcanes. The farmers are pressing for fixing Rs 601 per quintal as sugarcane price, payment within 15 days after purchasing the sugarcane, 50 per cent more charge if the payment exceeded the set deadline and weighing the sugarcane on the weighing scale used for sugar or a separate arrangement for weighing sugarcane. The agitators had submitted a memorandum to the sugar mill on December 3. The sugar mill's operation remained affected since Saturday with the sit-in by farmers at the main gate.
