Guinness recognition sought for Sherchan Kathmandu, February 19: Min Bahadur Sherchan thought he set a world record by becoming the oldest person to scale Mount Everest when he reached atop Everest at the age of 77. But, to his shock, the Guinness World Record recognised someone else as the oldest person to reach the top of the world recently. He scaled the mountain on May 25 last year. He had sent all documents related to his feat to the world records body in July. The documents included government certificate that recognised him as the oldest person to scale the roof of the world. “The documents were received on July 31 by a lady named Luchia at the Guinness office. But we have recently heard a news that 75-year-old Yu Chiro Miura has been recognised as the oldest oldest person to climb Everest,” said Nanda Bahadur Singh, spokesperson, Senior Citizens’ Mt Everest Expedition Nepal, 2008, which organised Sherchan’s expedition. “The government has assured us that Sherchan will get recognition worldwide. But we also need the Guinness to recognise him. This is not about an individual getting fame, but a matter of national pride,” Singh said.
