She is a woman with a creative mind, who uses her skills and ideas and brings them into practice. She is guided by her own principles and always thinks about making a positive change. She is Binda Gurung, a primary level teacher at the Everest Higher Secondary School.
I have studied with her since I was one-and-half-years old. She is always eager to bring about changes in the primary teaching methods, and emphasises on practical education in a tranquil atmosphere.
When she joined the school she had a dream to bring about positive changes in the teaching methods. She says that chalk, duster, bench, desk and stick are not adequate scholastic materials for teaching, but the class should be decorated with many symbolic items through which children can understand the subject matter more easily. With her personal effort she has tried to create such an environment which later on many others cooperated with to help her accomplish her remarkable deeds.
When we enter class LKG and UKG we find ourselves in heaven where many knowledgeable items have been decorated, walls are painted with different colours, re-creational materials are pasted and many other fascinating things have been put up. Other teachers say that previously it was quite boring, but now all this has added to their spirit and interest to teach young kids.
It takes nearly two weeks to decorate a class, where besides stationery materials hard work and love are also put in.
Gurung said, “These changes bring drastic changes in children’s minds and also build feelings of cooperation, understanding and altruism among children. It assists standardising and imparting quality education.”
Perhaps, these works will enhance the quality of any institution which hopes to make to make the foundation strong, and inspire others to do so.
