Nepal is presently passing through a transitional phase, a period of time that sees terrifying violence, and, at the same time, a hope for a bright, new future. And it is this mixed feeling
of hope and fear that young artist Sabin Prakash Sainju has tried to depict in his first solo exhibition ‘Confronting Transitional Period, a nationwide dilemma…’ at the Nepal Art Council.
Using collage and mixed media, Sainju in his 24 paintings deals mostly with political issues. While his wish to keep children away from violence is quite evident in some paintings, Sainju also seems to ask his fellow youths not to indulge in irresponsible acts like burning tyres
and vandalism. His paintings are bright yet often seem painful.
Explaining his main theme in ‘Amidst peace and violence’, Sainju said, “The burning prayer flags show the violence existing in the country, but the colours also show a hope for peaceful and progressive future.”
The exhibition, inaugurated by young political leader Gagan Thapa on September 4, is organised by Everest Art Gallery and will be on till September 11.
