KATHMANDU:Just in a week afterbreaking his own record for most summits on Mt Everest, Kami Rita Sherpa has yet again stood atop the world’s highest mountain this morning.
Gyanendra Shrestha, a liaison officer at the base camp, told THT that the 49-year-old climber scaled Mt Everest for the 24th time becoming the only mountaineer in the world to hold the record for most Everest summits.
According to Mingma Sherpa, Company Chairman at Seven Summit Treks, Kami Rita from Thame village of Solukhumbu district successfully climbed Mt Everest at 6:38 am from Nepal side breaking his own record for most summits on the roof of the world.
“Kami Rita along with the Indian Police team from the Seven Summit Treks expedition has stood atop the roof of the world,” Sherpa told THT. Kami Rita reaches the top of Mt Everest guiding Indian team, he added.
According to Shrestha, Kami Rita started his summit push from Camp IV on Monday night and reached the summit point on Tuesday morning. Earlier, Kami Rita scaled Mt Everest on May 15 for the 23rd time.
Kami Rita has already climbed most of the peaks above 8,000 m including K2, Cho-oyu, Lhoste and Annapurna among others. The climbers have now been descending to the lower camps safely, Sherpa said adding that Kami Rita wanted to climb Mt Everest for at least 25 times.
