Kids etch posters for peace The Lions Club of Kathmandu Samakhushi organised a poster competition at Pathsala Foundation Nepal, Baneshwor, on October 30 as part of the Lions Clubs International’s ‘Lions International Peace Poster Contest’ on the theme ‘Peace Without Borders.’ Children between 11-13 years are eligible to participate in the contest through over 45,000 Lions clubs from 194 countries. The winner will win a cash prize of $2500 and a certificate, while 23 others will win a consolation prize of $500 each and a certificate. Twenty-one children from various schools had participated in today’s competition, in which Riva Nayaju of Class VIII, Everest School, was declared the winner. She was given a cash prize of Rs 1,100 and a certificate. Her poster will be entered for the district-level competition. The winning poster at the district level will proceed on to the international competition in December. “This is an international contest that encourages children to creatively express their image of peace so that we have a greater tolerance and international understanding,” said Raju Dhamala, chairperson, Lions International Peace Poster ContesT
