KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 1
A solo trekker from Korea died in the Everest region after he reached Gokyo without any guide or porter.
According to witnesses, Wonhong Gang from Republic of Korea breathed his last with taking shower at a resort in Gokyo village at around 8:50pm on Tuesday.
"The 29-year-old hiker died at Gokyo Resort while he reached there alone," eyewitnesses told THT.
The government has banned solo trekking for foreigners from April 1, making it mandatory to take a guide along to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the travellers.
"Gokyo incident is the result of violations of the government rule," Said Nwag Nima Sherpa, board director at Nepal Tourism Board. Sherpa also urged the government and concerned stakeholders to strictly monitor the adventure activities in the high Himalayas.
