Leaders vow to deliver constitution thru CA We have reached the South Col in the constitution drafting process — Baburam Bhattarai, UCPN-M leader Leaders of major political parties today expressed determination to deliver the new constitution through the Constituent Assembly. CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said, “Since the constitution drafting process has reached the final stage, I request all agitating parties to sit for talks. I promise that their genuine demands will definitely be fulfilled.” He added that the country would regret it later if institutionalising the republic system, federalism, inclusiveness and rights of the people was delayed. The constitution drafting process should neither be delayed nor stopped, he said. Unified CPN-Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai said, “We are near the summit of the Mount Everest. We have reached the South Col in the constitution drafting process. This time we must scale the peak.” Bhattarai said, “This is our last chance to deliver the new constitution. There won’t be another CA and the history will take another course.” He said the current administrative units, development regions, zones, districts and election constituencies would all be restructured. “Protest against splitting any area or district is meaningless, as the federal commission will arrange the actual boundaries later,” he said. Bhattarai urged all not to politicise the issue of religion and stick to secularism, as it was already mentioned in the draft constitution. Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel said the federal commission would arrange the boundaries later and the seven-province federal model was not the final one. Paudel requested all agitating parties to find a solution through talks without getting instigated. Of the 452 CA members, who had registered for taking part in discussion on the revised draft of the new constitution, 202 have put forth their views, according to Sudarshan Kuinkel, assistant spokesperson for the CA Secretariat. CA is likely to debate the revised draft for another three days.
