Our legs are very beautiful, and we like to see it remain that way. So, please SLOW DOWN in the pit area!” the seemingly irked anchorwoman was trying to advise the adventurous racers at the Nepal Investment Bank Third Corporate Go-Kart Competition 2007 held at the Tiger Karts, Swayambhu on April 7. Ninety participants from 30 leading corporate houses locked horns in the competition organised by Nepal Youth Business Foundation (NYBF). Flaunting their company names in T-Shirts, the racers, with both confident and jittery faces, appeared to be having an exciting time. And yes, the organisers were also very well set with the could-not-be-more-apt background music to further enthuse the racers and spectators alike. “Just push down the accelerator without jamming into others,” one participant was heard advising an attentive buddy participant. “It’s not that difficult,” another was heard assuring a hesitant racer. A very youthful charm was conferred to the competition by the young organisers and the youthful vibrancy of the mostly young participants. This youthful air was heightened by the youth-oriented speeches at a short ceremony preceding the races given by among others Chairman and Founding Trustee of NYBF Saurab Jyoti, and president of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chandi Raj Dhakal. Almost all the speakers highlighted the need to encourage youth to entrepreneurship and to the frontline in running a society. Many preliminary rounds saw some participants leading their competitors by more than a lap. Some proved to be really old hands at the adventure sport as they zoomed past their competitors quite comfortably even in narrow gaps. However, the champion among them all proved to be Akash Golchha from Bhudeo Trading Private Limited, who is now entitled to a free air ticket for a Kathmandu-Bang-kok-Kathmandu trip. The first runner-up was Hitesh Golchha of Him Electronics, who won a trip to Pokhara. And the second runner-up was Saurabh Dugar of KL Dugar Group, whose wrist will flaunt a Seiko watch. The competition was intended to raise funds for the NYBF initiative to financially assist young entrepreneurs.
