Maoist union forces Indian staff out
Two Indian nationals working with Nepal Recreation Centre Pvt Ltd (NRC), which runs two casinos—Casino Everest and Casino Royale in Kathmandu, have been forced to resign from their jobs by Maoist-dominated trade unions.
Issuing a press release today, NRC said that Kishor Sagar, food & beverage controller at Casino Everest and Rajesh Katariya, operations manager at Casino Royale, have been threatened with their lives if they so not immediately resign from service by All Nepal Hotel and Restaurants Workers Union.
“We are provided with lodging and food by our employer.
But, on July 26, a group of Maoist-affiliated union members threatened us to quit our jobs immediately,” said Kishor Sagar, who has been working for NRC, as a consultant for the last 20 months.
Of the two victims, Rajesh Katariya has already left Nepal, while Kishor Sagar is leaving on Tuesday. “They threatened me to quit the job without any logical reason, saying that no foreigners are allowed to work in Nepal,” Sagar told this daily.
ANHRWU has put forth a 14-point demand to the management of Casino Everest and Casino Royale, in which the clause 10 states non-Nepali citizens, other than technical ones, working in the casino must be removed and their posts be replaced by Nepalis.
According to NRC, the Indian embassy in Kathmandu has been informed about the
issue and their reaction is still awaited.
