KATHMANDU: Japanese mountaineer 19-year-old Marin Minamaya successfully climbed the world’s highest peak on Monday morning becoming the youngest Japanese ever to conquer the Mt Everest.
Beyul Adventure which locally manages the climbers from International Mountain Guide informed that Marin, the youngest woman in the world to climb the Mt Manaslu, stood atop the peak at around 5 am.
The Japanese climber is on her way to completing the Explorer's Grand Slam, a challenge to climb the highest peaks in each of the seven continents and reach the North and South Poles. “She is supposed to complete her seven summits in July by climbing Mt Denali and she also plans to complete the Explorer’s Grand Slam, with the final expedition to the North Pole in next April”
According to her website, Marin started climbing after she had gone to the Annapurna base camp for trekking six year ago.
At her 14, Alyssa reached on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro with her father Glenn and friend Godson. “This was where she made the final decision to climb the Mount Everest and her focus has not changed since.
The back-to-back disasters in the last two years had, however, thwarted her plan to make the summit attempt.
“Looking forward to some major climbs in the next 18 months as I work hard to complete the 7 Summits before I'm 21yo,” she added.
According to Dawa Lama, Managing Director at Dream Himalaya Adventures, Alyssa was a part of an 11-member Adventure Global Everest Expedition team.
