Miuro appointed Friendship Ambassador KATHMANDU:Yuichiro Miura, a well-known alpinist, skier and adventurer, has been appointed as the Friendship Ambassador on the occasion of 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan appointed her with the coordination of Nepal. Miura was appointed as the Friendship Ambassador with the intentions of promoting bilateral exchanges and friendship between Nepal and Japan. Miura has a close relationship with Nepal, having skied down Mount Everest and scaled the peak three times, the third time breaking records at the age of 80, reads the press statement issued by the Embassy of Japan. Miura also acts as Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme (WFP) and was very active in the aftermath of the earthquake, collecting donations for much-needed supplies. Miura has long been encouraging friendship between the two countries. Similarly, the Foreign Ministry of Japan also selected a logo to commemorate the 60th anniversary. The logo unites Japan's national flower, sakura, and Nepal's national flower rhododendron (laligurans) with a mountain from each country to represent the friendship between Nepal and Japan. The press release stated that the logo will be used by governments of Nepal and Japan also by organisations of events endorsed by the governments to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan throughout this year.
