Mountaineers among others honoured on Constitution Day

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 20 President Bidya Devi Bhandari announced to decorate mountaineers as well as distinguished persons, civil servants and individuals from the social sector with various decorations and titles on the occasion of the Constitution Day (National Day) 2079 BS. Sanu Sherpa, Kristin Harila among others scale Manaslu Ex-MP facing life imprisonment freed on Constitution Day Among over 900 personalities, legendary climber Mingma Sherpa, women mountaineers Maya Sherpa and Phunjo Jhangmu Lama will get Jana Sewa Shreee medal, according to the Office of the President. Born in Makalu of Sangkhuwasabha, Mingma Sherpa has been involved in social services and he also runs the country's largest trekking and mountaineering company. Phunjo Jhangmu Lama, who set the world record for the fastest woman to scale Mt Everest from the Nepal side in 2018, supported rural communities for their livelihood. She is the first Nepali female helicopter long-line rescuer. Born in Chhokangpaaro village of Tsum valley in Gorkha, Phunjo scaled Mt Everest, Mt Manaslu, Mt Cho Oyu and other peaks including Amdablam, Lobuche and Denali. Maya Sherpa from Okhaldhunga is the President of Everest Summiteers Association and also a seasoned mountaineer.
