Mr and Miss University crowned
KATHMANDU: It wasn’t the weekend actually, but the evening at the Nepal Academy made one feel as if it had already started. Decked in their finery, people had gathered on July 6 to witness the crowning of the Mister and Miss University Nepal 2006, organised by the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (CARP Nepal).
Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Chitralekha Yadav was the guest of honour.
The CARP Nepal is an organisation, which aims to uplift students, promote youth values, responsibility and harmony among young people of the world beyond culture, race, religion, nationality and ethnicity. Bringing together students from various universities, the event is a sound platform for students to dream big.
Twelve contestants participated in the event vying to be the next Mister and Miss University.
The contestants were confident while giving their introductions and looked stunning in their traditional outfits. They must have made quite an impression on the jury members.
Before the final even, other contests like Mr and Miss Talent, and speech contest were held at the Everest Hotel and the Hyatt Regency respectively.
Mr and Miss Service were held at Basantapur, where the participants organised an anti-drug campaign.
With a lot of cultural items thrown in between, the programme on the whole was entertaining.
Dibya Dhakal and Niraj Baral were declared Miss and Mr University Nepal 2006. They will be participating in the Mister and Miss University International 2006 to be held in Manila on August 14.
Our best wishes to the winners. Make the country proud.
Slip of tongue is pardonable, but to call the Chief Guest, none other than Deputy Speaker Chitralekha Yadav, ‘Mr Chitralekha Yadav’ and that even over and over again is being a little too, too... careless to say the least. Once can be excused, twice could be ‘hey she’s done it again’, but time and again is not acceptable at any event. The compere even thanked Yadav for ‘his presence’.
Take more care next time. Please.
