"We eight Sherpa climbers reached the summit opening a climbing route," Sherpa quoted Lakpa as saying. Lakpa Sherpa, a senior mountain guide from Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition led the team of eight rope fixing members and they scaled the 8485-metre mountain, Sherpa said. With this feat, Lakpa made it to the top of Makalu for the eighth time, he informed. Lakpa, who scaled several peaks, made headlines in 2022 after he scaled Mt Makalu three times in 16 days becoming the only climber to make the most ascents of 8485-metre peaks in a single season. Lakpa also scaled Manaslu four times, Ama Dablam six times, Lhotse two times, Cho Oyu twice and Mt Everest once. According to the Department of Tourism, at least 45 foreign climbers representing four different teams obtained climbing permits for Makalu till date.
