KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 1 Nepali mountaineer Prakash Raj Pandey successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, on Tuesday morning at 6:40 AM. Situated in Tanzania's dormant volcano region, Kilimanjaro stands as one of the tallest peaks among the world's seven continents. Along with the Nepali national flag, Pandey proudly raised flags of Nepal Scouts, Rotary International, and other organizations at the summit. Baker in United States Pandey, who embarked on a mission to conquer the Seven Summits, representing the highest mountains on each continent, initiated his Tanzanian journey on October 25, with support from Makalu Outfit. He emphasizes that this endeavor is not only about personal achievement but also carries the aspirations of Nepal and its people. He envisions this campaign fostering diplomatic ties between Nepal and other nations and promoting the country's tourism. The Seven Summits challenge holds a special place in the world of mountain climbing. Following his Kilimanjaro triumph, Pandey intends to continue scaling the highest peaks on the remaining continents. He has previously conquered Mount Everest, Manaslu, Amadablam, Island Peak, and, last June, Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. After his successful ascent, Pandey extended his support to the local community by providing sports equipment to 75 children and youths, aged 2 to 20, from the Masamaria Children's Center in Tanzania. He views this act of gratitude as an integral part of his climbing journey. Pandey, a member of Nepal Scouts, has scaled the Baden Powell Scout Peak, named after the founder of World Scout Expedition, Baden Powell, twice. Additionally, he has assisted foreign scouts in their successful conquest of this mountain.
