Kathmandu, August 26 :
One person was killed and three others injuried in an armed fight between two gangs early this morning near Galaxy Discotheque, Everest Hotel, Kathmandu.
“Mahendra Khadka, 34, of Panauti, Kavre, was killed and Baba Tamang (Lama), 24, Nesanal Rai, 24, and Sanjay Basnet, 25, of Kathmandu, were injured when an armed gang led by T Milan attacked the group of Khadka at around 12:30 am today,” said a police official at the Valley Crime Investigation Branch (VCIB), Hanumandhoka.
Police said that there were around five persons with Khadka whereas the gang led by T Milan had around 15 members when the incident occurred.
Khadka died while undergoing treatment at the Everest Nursing Home Pvt Ltd, whereas the other three returned home after getting preliminary treatment.
According to police, the group led by T Milan was following Khadka’s group from some time. “When Khadka’s group was about to enter Galaxy Discotheque, Milan’s group blocked them.
Following a brief verbal altercation, Milan’s group attacked Khadka’s group with khukuris and swords,” the police official said.
Milan’s group fled the scene after the incident. Though the police arrested one Rabin Basnet of Kathmandu, police is yet to confirm his involvement in the case.
“He is insisting that he was not the member of Milan’s group but was involved in calming down the situation when the two groups were just engaged in verbal duel,” the police said.
The VCIB said it has identified some assailants as T Milan, Suman, Pankaj Ale, Teranam aka Kamal, Anil Lama and Harka Gurung.
“Earlier, all the men used to work for a single group of T Milan. However, later on they got separated and the fight ensued as misunderstanding arouse among them over the issue of sharing money earned from their work.
The criminal group used to work for anyone if they were paid,” a Deputy Superintendent of Police at the VCIB, said.
According to the VCIB, the persons involved in the fight from both the sides are already in the wanted-list of Valley Police as they are professional criminals.
