Play no hanky-panky, leaders warned Party leaders too will be swept away along with the monarchy if they try to deceive the people in any way, said a leader of a Maoist-affiliated trade union. “The people’s movement will sweep away the party leaders if they try to deceive people,” said Shalik Ram Jammarkattel, president of the All Nepal Trade Unions’ Federation (ANTUF). “People will punish the leaders for their misdeeds,” he said. Addressing an interaction titled “Agenda of the Seven Political Parties for Constituent Assembly” organised by the Everest Press Club here today, Jammarkattel said the parties have already breached the 12-point understanding by not consulting the Maoists before welcoming the royal proclamation. “We will watch the symptoms after the House begins, to decide on crucial issues - including the Royal Nepalese Army,” he said. Jammarkattel expressed doubts over the House, saying it might keep lingering for years as it did in 2007 BS. “Our conclusion is that there is a conspiracy,” he added. “If the parties compel the people to launch another people’s movement it will not only sweep away the monarchy but also the leaders,” claimed Hari Rokka, a political analyst. Rokka said the House should immediately take a decision on major issues raised by the people, including an unconditional election to a constituent assembly and that it should not take more than a week to do so. Former NSU general secretary Gagan Thapa said it was ceratin that henchmen of the Palace were conspiring against the people. “People had not participated in the movement for reinstating the House,” he said. “The Royal Nepalese Army is the most powerful aide of the King, and the Parliament should immediately decide to keep RNA under the Parliament and then clip the monarch’s wings,” he added. Meanwhile, NSU presidents of the student wings of both the Nepali Congress and NC-D, Mahendra Sharma and Kishor Singh Rathore, kept mum on the issue of a constituent assembly.
