PM Oli bids farewell to govt team assigned to measure Everest’s height KATHMANDU:Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli bid adieu to a government team going on an expedition to the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, amid a programme here today. The team comprising Survey Department’s technical staff members Khimlal Gautam, Rabin Karki, Suraj Singh Bhandari and Yuvaraj Dhital will re-measure the height of Mount Everest or Sagarmatha. Chhiring Jangbu Sherpa, Pemangima Sherpa, Aangpasang Sherpa, Angbu Sherpa and Keshab Poudel are guiding the expedition team. The government aims to measure the ‘exact’ height of Everest amid debates that there might have been a change in its height due to various reasons including the devastating earthquake of 2015. Mt Everest measures at 8,848 metres. On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli offered tika and garlands to the expeditioners. According to the Prime Minister, the government is sending the all Nepali team to re-measure Everest's height for the first time in history and the result would be the official data of the government. The Prime Minister wished the team success, urging the climbers to follow the commands of the team guides during their expedition. Stating that mountain climbing was a very challenging mission, he urged the expedition team to be careful of weather and their health while climbing.
