Pascale Petit read out poems that were close to her heart, “ this one I wrote when my father died,” she said before reading My Father’s Voice from her book, The Zoo Father and one she had written about her mother from her book, The Huntress at a poetry reading session held at Everest Book Shop, Baber Mahal Revisited on September 3. This programme was also held as a pre-launch of Pratik Magazine’s special British issue.
Petit guest edited this special issue with poet Yuyutsu R D Sharma. For her excellent literary works Petit’s books have been twice nominated as Books of the Year in the Times Literary Supplement and her work has been twice short listed for the TS Eliot Prize. Besides her own poems she also read the works of other poets, which are included in this issue. Talking about her creative work Petit said, “It’s the best thing in the world, you are fully alive, the feeling you get is like nothing else.” While talking about her experience of being a guest editor she said, “Initially its very exciting when you are choosing the poems, just reading others words you get inspired, its almost as half as writing a poem.” She added, “For Pratik I wanted to include poems that the Nepali people would appreciate, there are a lot of poems related to nature.” She is here on a literary tour supported by Arts Council of England and The Society of Authors, UK.
Nepali poets Shailendra Sakar, Buddhi Sayami, Purna Vaidya, Bishnu Bahadur Singh, Pramod Snehi, Sabina Sindhua and Baba Basnet also shared their poems at the event. The programme was organised by White Lotus Book Shop in collaboration with Everest Book Shop.
