President honours Sherpa with National Youth Award KATHMANDU:President Bidya Devi Bhandari honoured Phurba Tenzing Sherpa, a record Mount Everest summiter, with the National Youth Award on the occasion of International Youth Day. During a program organised by the the National Youth Council, President Bhandari awarded Sherpa with a purse of Rs 100,000 for or making valuable contributions to the country's mountaineering industry. Sherpa, who was born in Dolakha district in 1988 ,has ascended the Mt Everest 12 times, while he has records for climbing the highest peak of the world twice within three days and nine times within the age between 17 and 24. President Bhandari also felicitated various individual youth and youth organisations for making notable contribution in nation building with the NYW amid a function here in the Capital on Saturday.
