Record holder woman climber remembered
Mountaineers and trekking entrepreneurs today paid tributes to Nima Doma Sherpa, a record holder summiteer, who passed away last year in an accident in the Mt Everest area.
Sherpa was the first woman climber in South Asia to scale Mt Lhotse and first Nepali women to climb Mt Everest from northern slope.
“Nima Doma’s venture was an inspiration not only for the Nepalis but the women climbers across the world,” said Lakpa Buti Sherpa, the chairperson of Women Mountaineers’ Association.
Nima Nuru Sherpa, Doma’s brother, said the government should take initiative to recognise the contribution of a woman mountaineer.
Chief of the Tourism Promotion Division Dinesh Hari Adhikari handed over Rs 30,000 as support for Doma’s daughter’s education. Adhikari also said the government was committed to recognise the contribution of Nima Doma.
Nima Doma’s husband, Rajan Thapa, lives in Maharajgunj with her daughter and runs a trekking agency.
