Seven women climbers in bid to scale Mt Everest At least seven women climbers have left for upper Rolwaling region to attempt the ascent of Ramdung peak, according to the expedition organiser. The team led by thefirst Everest summiteer from the Tamang communityand goodwill ambassador of UN Women Nepal Kanchhi Maya Tamang will attempt to scale the 5,925 m–peak with a message of women empowerment, Dinesh Tamang from Sherpa Shepherds, the expedition organiser said. The team has already reached Gongar Khola and is now heading to Simigaon, according to record-holder climber Pemba Dorje Sherpa who is also one of the owners of Sherpa Shepherds. “The team is climbing Ramdung peak in its run-up to an Everest bid. The team will be joined by more members when it attempts to climb the world’s highest peak in 2018,” he said. Lhakpa Yangji Sherpa from Solukhumbu, Dikki Sherpa from Sankhuwasabha, Dawa Diki Sherpa from Dolakha, Sharmila Lama from Kavre, Yangdi Sherpa from Solukhumbu and Chhoki Sherpa from Gaurishankar-2, Dolakha are the members of the expedition, according to the organiser.
