Shangri~La honours Tenzing Norgay KATHMANDU:On Thursday, Shangri~La Hotel, Kathmandu immortalised the legendary Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in their suite room. The ceremony was inaugurated by the hotel's Chairman Shyam Bahadur Panday and Norbu Tenzing Sherpa, son of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, as per a media release. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa had been making his mark in the mountaineering scene since the 1930s and had accompanied and guided Himalayan expedition teams from the globe. The first ever successful Mount Everest summit on May 29, 1953 with Sir Edmund Hillary was the most prominent achievement of the many he held. Furthermore, Shangri~La is dedicating another suite room to Sir Edmund Hillary, which will be officially inaugurated upon the arrival of Sir Hillary's children - Peter Hillary and Sarah Hillary. The suites have been upgraded with the luxurious yet traditional interiors, where guests are treated to amenities of the highest standard along with the portraits and novels of Sherpa and Sir Hillary from back in their expedition days.
