It is the most awaited event for players National cricket team skipper Kathmandu, September 9 Nepal Sports Journalists Forum today informed that it was ready to organise the Pulsar Sports Award at the Nepal Academy Hall on Monday. NSJF’s former President Niranjan Rajbanshi said they were happy to announce that the preparations were completed for the mega event. “All our committees have completed their assignments and we are eagerly awaiting the day,” said Rajbanshi. “We are lucky that we have managed to attract the sponsors for the event.” The award ceremony features eight categories — Player of the Year Male, Female, Youth, Coach, People’s Choice, Para-athlete, Special and Lifetime Achievement, informed NSJF General Secretary Prakash Timalsina. National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista said the award was the biggest, most popular and attractive sports event of the country. “I was planning to organise sports award to honour players and coaches. However, when I got the chance to witness Pulsar Sports Award last year, I changed my plan and decided to support NSJF’s award event,” said Bista, who promised a support of one million rupees for the award in future. NSJF President Mahesh Acharya asked the government to own the award. “NSJF is the organiser of the award and we want the government take the ownership of the event. We have been managing sponsorship only because of personal relation and it might collapse if the corporate sector withdraw the support,” Acharya added. National cricket team skipper Paras Khadka said the award was one of the most awaited events for sports fraternity. “The hype created by the award in sports fraternity clears the gravity and importance of the event. I have been following this award since I was nominated and won the youth category award. I was happy just for being nominated. It is the most awaited event for players. We are excited about award as NSJF has been able to present something new every time,” said Khadka, who added that he would try to complete a hat-trick and also win the award every year. Olympian and past winner of the award, Deepak Bista said the award was hugely popular in sports fraternity. “When I saw the award nearly 15 years ago, I had not thought that the award would be such a grand one. Everyone talks about the award and it has encouraged the players and lured private sector into sports,” said Bista. NNIPA President Deepak Shrestha congratulated all the nominees of the award and said being nominated in the award was itself a honour for athletes. “I was a nominee in the second edition of the award and I was over the moon. I hope all the nominees in this edition are also have the same feeling,” said Shrestha. Bajaj Pulsar of Hansraj Hulaschand and Company is the main sponsor of the Award, while Surya Nepal, ISME, Ruslan Football, THT LIVE, Sahas Sports, Royal Singi Hotel, Dish Media Network, Avenues TV, NSC, Nepal Olympic Committee, Everest Bank are the co-sponsors and partners. The winners in Male, Female, People’s Choice and Coach will get Bajaj NS160 motorbike each, while others will receive Rs 50,000 each and gift hampers.
