15-year-old Alex Brennan from Sunderland has set his sights on climbing Mount Everest by 2030, aiming to become the youngest Briton ever to reach the world’s highest peak.

A 15-year-old student from Whitburn Church of England Academy, Alex Brennan, has announced his dream of becoming the youngest Briton to summit Mount Everest — the world’s highest mountain — by the year 2030.

An avid adventurer from Fulwell, Alex has already begun training under the mentorship of Alan Arnette, the renowned American mountaineer known as the oldest American to summit K2. Despite his age, Alex’s determination and early climbing experience are already turning heads in the UK’s mountaineering community.

Alex’s passion for the outdoors began with cycling, hiking, and camping trips across the UK. This year alone, he has scaled Skiddaw, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon, and is planning high-altitude climbs in Europe and Africa in 2026 to prepare for Everest’s extreme conditions.

To complete his expedition, Alex will need to raise around £160,000 for logistics, permits, and equipment. He has already gained sponsorship from outdoor gear company LEKI and received a letter of commendation from 10 Downing Street recognizing his ambition and charitable cause.

“You only get one life, and I want to do as much as I can,” Alex said. “Climbing Everest would be an incredible way to raise awareness for mental health — something very close to my heart.”

Alex’s climb is dedicated to supporting mental health and suicide prevention charities after losing his uncle to suicide. He hopes his challenge will inspire other young people to seek help and embrace resilience through adventure.

The youngest Briton to ever summit Mount Everest remains Jake Meyer, who achieved the feat in 2005 at just 21 years old. Alex hopes to break that record before turning 20.
