KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 5 The Everest Man, a movie depicting the adventure of the legendary mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa, has won the best film award in Bastau Film Festival held in Kazhakstan. Future course of Nepali politics: Heading towards yet another cycle of instability Ode to the bicycle: The future is the bike The film describes Kami Rita Sherpa's most challenging attempt to conquer Everest. While accepting the award, director of the film Binod Adhikari thanked the judges for recognising his and his team's efforts and said that the entire cast and crew of the documentary, especially Kami Rita, are truly honoured. Adhikari further said that Nepal is grateful for this award and for the recognition. The documentary doesn't only capture the mountaineering aspect but also the preparation, the conflict and thoughts that went into the climbing process. Kami Rita Sherpa's challenges were particularly highlighted in the documentary. Additionally, the director also said that he is looking forward to address and to mitigate effects of climate change, that have gravely affected the mountaineering community and the environment as a whole, through his projects. "Every year, the mountains suffer the impacts of climate change. Because of the decreasing winter precipitation and rising temperatures all year round, avalanches and rockfalls are more frequent, especially during the peak climbing season." "If the mountains lose snow, mountain climbing will lose its significance," Adhikari elaborated. With this documentary, he hopes to raise awareness about the Sherpas, add more to their recognition and the environmental changes in high altitude areas and the urgency of saving the earth. In addition, he wants to revive Nepal's tourism sector, which was by and large impacted by the Covid pandemic.
