The US Nepal Climbers Association Inc, which has been celebrating May 29 as Everest Day has expressed dismay over the announcement of Nepal Day on the same day. New York State officially recognizes May 29 as Everest Day Everest Summitters Association to host symbolic event to commemorate Everest Day Issuing a press release, the organisation claimed that it has been celebrating Everest Day worldwide on May 29 to mark the first Everest Summit by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary in association with the Nepali Embassy in New York, United States, American Alpine Club, Explorer Club of USA, New York City Outbound and United Sherpa Association for the last eight years. However, some individuals and organisations have conspired to diminish the prestige of the day by declaring the day as Nepal day hence trying to throw mud on an auspicious day, claimed the statement. Similarly, the organisation has also claimed that the Federation of Indigenous People of Nepal and America (FIPNA), the organiser of Nepal Day, has wrongly used the name of Pasang Nima Sherpa, President of UNCAI, as the member of the Nepal Day organisation committee. The inc also expressed alarm of FIPNA's act of collecting financial donation for marking Nepal day. Likewise, Everest Summiteers Association has also expressed its concern over the recent developments. The association also expressed its support to the UNCAI and its works. UNCAI, founded in 2014 in New York as a non-profit organisation, has been working to promote the growth and protection of mountaineering and climbing worldwide, advance safe and ethical mountain practices, and promote responsible access, cultural sensitivity and preservation, and environmental protection.
