With a record holder among the hills
I went trekking for the first time in my life with my father, a German family friend and our friendly guide Raju to the Khumbhu region at Sagarmatha National Park. This was also the first time I got to see snowfall and played in the snow making snowballs and snowman.
I even got to see Mount Everest from different angles almost every day. The other mountains I saw were Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamsherku, to name a few.
The most interesting part of my trek was that I got acquainted with a Sherpa whose name has appeared in the Guinness Book of Records because he has climbed Mount Everest 15 times between 1990 and 2005. He owns a lodge at Thame, which is hours away from Namche Bazaar where most of the trekking trails in this region start.
He is an extremely simple and friendly man running his lodge in a remote area. He lives in a modest old-fashioned home with his family. After meeting him, I thought of taking a candid interview with him but he postponed it to the next morning but then the next morning he was too busy preparing his 16th attempt to climb Mount Everest.
The least he could do for us was to take a photograph with us. So we took some good pictures with him. He seemed very pious. Every time he made an attempt to climb the mountain, he called the lamas from the nearby monastery and perform puja for good luck.
The next morning we saw a group of tourists taking photographs with him as they wanted to take back memories to share with their friends and families.
It was time for us to pack up. I looked around, the sky was blue and the mountains stood white and proud and stood mesmerised by the beauty.
