7-point declaration for Climate Justice issued at Everest Base Camp
The event was orchestrated by the Sathsathai Foundation.
During the conference, a seven-point declaration for climate justice was issued, urging the three layers of government to devote serious attention to the conservation of the world's tallest peak and other mountains.
The declaration encompassed issues related to local initiatives and cooperation for climate justice, adaptation, and climate risk reduction, along with national and international partnerships.
Furthermore, the declaration incorporated points concerning women's participation, the promotion of tourism in the Himalayas, pollution control in the mountainous region, and other related matters.
Addressing the event, organizer Prajita Karki emphasized that the time has come to ensure justice for nature, asserting that living beings can only survive if nature is preserved.
Similarly, Member of Madhesi Commission Renu Devi Sah pointed out that livelihoods and agricultural systems in Madhes are directly impacted by climate change, calling for the collective efforts of all to mitigate risks.
