Youngest kids to reach Everest Base Camp elated
Kandarp Sharma and his sister Ritvika who became the youngest people to reach Kalapatthar, an area slightly higher than the Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,555 metres, today shared the joy of their success at a press conference.
Kandarp is five years old, while Ritwika is eight years, old. They have become the youngest kids to reach the Base camp. “It was an exciting experience for me to reach the Base camp,” said Ritwika during the press meet, adding, “We saw the Everest which was very close.”
The Kalapatthar peak is higher than the highest peaks in the USA, Europe, and Antarctica. Both Kandarp and Ritwika are National Adventure sports players from Gwalior, India, and their father Bhupendra is an adventure coach with 20 years of experience as an international mountaineer.
The April 25 earthquake had triggered a series of avalanches in the mountains and that made climbing much more risky.
Bhupendra said it was a challenge for them, which they gladly accepted.
Speaking at the press meet, media consultant of Nepal Tourism Board Sharad Pradhan said the duo had not only shown their love for the mountains but also helped promote Nepal’s tourism at a time when the country was gradually rising from the aftermath of the disaster.
People from various countries around the word have been congratulating the duo for their achievement, stated the release.
